Our next meeting is Saturday, April 20 from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Burnham Hoyt book club room at the Central Library. We’re reading Glow by Amy Ryan. If you want to join us, read the book and come hang out. We’ll have coffee and donuts. If you don’t get a chance to read the book in time but want to join the book club, come by anyway. We’ll be picking books for the next sessions plus talking about the book we read. I’m pretty sure no one bites.

We are going to meet on Saturday, 23 March at 10 AM to talk about what kind of book club you would like and also to pick out some books to read. We will have donuts! Awesome!

Some of you have suggested that we have a sci-fi and fantasy book club-- this can happen if you want it to. Or, we can read a bit of everything. So swing by the library with a list of books you think we should read! Bring a friend so you know that at least 2 cool people will be there. Also, we should probably have a cool name, right? So think about that too.

A bonus for this year: 3 superhero movies! The Avengers was amazing, and while I haven’t gotten a chance to see the new Spiderman yet, it sounds like it’s pretty good as well. Last but not least? The new Batman movie, of course! Even though Bane (the villian) looks more like Jaws from The Spy Who Loved Me (or maybe Hayden Christiansen’s Darth Vader wearing headgear?), I’ll still give it a whirl.

I’m in the process of selecting teen magazines for the Burnham Hoyt Room and I’d like your input. Is there a magazine that you wish the library carried? Let me know! You can respond in the comments or call the Hoyt desk at 720-865-1312 – we would love to hear from you!

Some of the teens worked on a detailed map showing how we could help with triage and defense. Almost everyone made zombie warning signs and contributed to a list of things we would need at Central to keep safe. After the teens finished, we presented our plan to a member of DPL’s security team. If they implement all of the teens’ requests, you will soon see guard bears and salt moats around all of our branches.

When Mass Effect 3 was delayed to March 6, 2012 earlier this year, I told everyone I knew (and a few that I didn’t) that it was going to be the longest wait ever, and that I would probably die of impatience before it came out. Instead of obsessively playing the games again, (okay, maybe I’m doing that a little) or obsessing on the Internet (well, I am doing that) I’ve decided to read and watch some awesome Sci Fi. Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Revenge of the Mooncake Vixen by Marilyn Chin
A novel in short stories, this book follows the lives of Mei Ling and Moonie, identical (and comically opposite in nature) twins. Chin researched Chinese women's revenge stories for this book and the combination of old fables with what it's like to be a Chinese-American today are brilliant.
