Sam Gary: One Branch One Story
I see Nikki, 4 year old Parker and baby Phoenix in Preschool storytime every week. Parker loves to read and Nikki loves to bring Parker to the library because he is not in school yet and it’s a chance for him to be around other kids his age. It’s a great tool for socialization Nikki says.
According to Nikki, Parker’s favorite things about the library are the books, storytime and the special summer of reading programs, and not necessarily in that order. This summer Sam Gary had 10 weekly programs covering live animals, theater, science concepts, magic, and magic combined with live animals and theater! They came to many of our programs. When I asked Parker which one was his favorite, he said “all!”
I also asked Parker what he liked about the library and he said the shows, storytime, books and because he had made a word. I looked where he pointed and he had taken our block alphabet letters and spelled out “kpaidjmor.” I asked him what that spelled and he said it is his story like we have here at the library. Hmmm, future author? Time will tell. The best part of summer reading? It brings many people to the Library and then they discover other reasons to keep coming back long after summer is over. The worst part for us librarians? 4 year olds, soon to be 5 year olds, go to Kindergarten at the end of summer. Good luck in school Parker!
