Docent Program: A Special Volunteer Opportunity
The Docent Program at the Denver Public Library
You can help Library staff deliver top-quality service at the Central Library or at one of the 22 Denver branch libraries. We are looking for volunteers with a variety of talents and the ability to work with a diverse group of people. Bilingual docents are needed in all docent assignments.
A Docent (dó-sent) is: |

| a. | A recognized teacher or lecturer (not on the salaried staff). |
| b. | A knowledgeable guide (especially one who conducts visitors through the institution and delivers a commentary on the collections). |

We Need You...Join!
Docents have a unique opportunity to:

Teach individuals how to access the Library’s electronic catalog and Internet.

Answer general questions.
-
Guide tours of the Central Library for a variety of ages, interests and groups.
-
Teach group Internet classes.
-
Assist staff with special projects and special events.
-
Assist Central Library customers with various Word Processing and Excel applications.
As part of the program, Docents agree to:

Complete the Docent training course.

Volunteer three hours per week for at least one year.

Attend Docent meetings.
